A Hollywood caricature

Even though I didn’t have much expectations out of the movie, as it looked like a typical over enthu detective movie like a ‘Birbal’, in spite of it, ‘Goodachari’ still disappointed me with its execution. These kids form the new crop of actors/writers in Telugu and Kannada film industry where they try too much and want to replicate Hollywood formula in their film but fail miserably at it. ‘Goodachari’ is one classic example of that. I guess only Rakshit Shetty stands out among this bunch.

The film opens with a shootout scene where Satya (Prakash Raj) seems to be shooting at someone, supposedly terrorist and crying for the loss of his dear friend Vijay (Ravi Prakash) who gets shot by the terrorists. Satya takes care of Gopi (Adivi Sesh) whose name later gets changed to Arjun Kumar. There is a horrible scene (not the only one) to showcase the intellectual capability of the movie where Satya calls our Gopi’s name but Gopi doesn’t turn back. After that intelligent scene Arjun grows up to be “intelligent” and “charming” man just like his dad. He later files 174 applications to get into a job so that he can serve his country but gets the job only after mentioning the name of his father.

The training scenes which happen after he gets recruited are such a disgrace to any spy film out there. All the scenes look school boyish and funny. Adivi Sesh was irritating to the core by trying to be intelligent. He was only making a fool of himself. His serious scenes were more humorous than the comic scenes. All the ramp walks in suits and slow mo walks showed his desperation to be look classy. The intellectual scenes too were so uninspiring and nothing special. It severely tried to make a movie out of Hollywood template but fails at the very basic level. The fight sequence at least could have been made better but after recently watching ‘Baby Driver’ and ‘The Raid’, it felt so unimaginative and dull.

This is the problem when Indian movies try to make a Hollywood style movie. Even their bad movies like ‘Death Race’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ are such a pleasure to watch, thanks to the professionalism. As a film there would be nothing to learn but it’d be a great popcorn experience which would give an adrenaline rush. Even if we have complaints post the movie, it doesn’t make us laugh. In ‘Goodachari’ I was scratching my head as to what he was trying. Even Mission Impossible agents won’t be this intelligent. Somehow Mr. Arjun seems to have answer for all. Even if it had been a straightforward movie, I would have hated less but with all the twists it was impossible to watch it without getting angry. On top of it, it’s a 2.5-hour movie which severely tests our patience.

Wonder how this film got famous, it’s a bad film even for general audience. That too after watching a splendid film like ‘Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya’, ‘Goodachari’ was such a tedious watch. There is one “daddy” twist of all in the climax. Don’t even try to get me started on that…
