First of credit has to be given to GVM for making a movie out of his comfort zone. I like him for that factor. He doesn’t complain about what he can’t do but rather just makes and fails. Nadunisi Naigal was one very good example for it. Even though it bombed (I liked) he at least did what he wanted to do. Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada was another attempt like that. But here I was hugely disappointed.

Just out of conversation with a friend where we talked about how AYM worked for majority of people who doesn’t make much noise about other GVM’s films, I was profoundly impacted with that aspect as well. In fact when I got to know that majority liked the first half, the romance and road trip, I was dumbstruck.

For me it was the second half, from Thalli Pogathey to pre climax it was brilliant, even though it lacked logic, the intensity was kept high and loved the action sequences. The title couldn’t have been served better. Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, in fact the previous title, Sattendru Marudhu Vaanilai too would have been apt, in fact even poetic.

The album was totally wasted in the movie, in fact the two songs which I didn’t listen much, Showkali and Idhu Naal Varayil, were the ones I loved the most. Especially liked the Showkali music for Royal Enfield, it would have been nice if they had put the music when he sees the bike in the second half (don’t ask me how he got the keys). Loved it when crowd (majorly guys) shouted for the reference of how bike would help getting girls and girls wouldn’t help getting bike. Some college moment that was.

Did you notice that the songs in album were given in the same order as that of it appeared in the movie. The problem with most of the songs were, they were not given any breathing space, everything thing appears to be ridiculously closely placed. So you don’t get to be absorbed at all. Thalli Pogathey was the only saving grace placed at a perfect juncture, even though the picturization was not good, the situated saves it. I didn’t like Simbu saying those verses before the song as well, felt very unreal.

The last ten minutes in first half, post the songs were the best part of the movie. The way the tension builds all of a sudden was brilliant.

The real problem with the film was whatever GVM usually does, he overdid it and spoilt it. The new things he did were pretty good. Except for the climax, Simbu does a fabulous job. In fact he carries the whole film in his shoulders.
